Apple won't be able to release the iPad mini 2 with Retina display this year because its suppliers are delaying it, Reuters reports.
The publication of the authoritative news agency reports that Apple is delaying the release of the second generation of the iPad mini, which would bring a Retina display and various other improvements.
"The reason for the delays is the manufacturing of Retina displays for the iPad Mini. The information says that one of the suppliers reported that there were delays in Apple certification," according to the publication.
A Retina display uses a lot more battery power than a conventional display, and Apple needs to be careful not to degrade the mini tablet's already advertised 10-hour battery life.
A faster processor that the new tablet is supposed to come with will have an impact on battery life, so Apple will need to ensure that the Retina display uses minimal system resources.
Considering the time it takes for the tablet to reach the consumer from the production panel, there is little hope of it being available in large quantities until early next year, Reuters reports.
