A US court has finally approved the lawsuit that some people had filed against Facebook. The lawsuit concerned Facebook's targeted ads, specifically Sponsored Stories ads. You've surely seen these types of ads. They are the ones that advertise a product using the name of a user of the social network. Facebook, according to the court's decision, will have to pay 20 million dollars, which will be distributed to hundreds of thousands of American beneficiaries.
The complaint alleged that the ads in question violated the privacy of members of the social network, even though they had granted Facebook the right to display their posts whenever it saw fit. The tacit agreement is considered given from the moment someone agrees to the terms of use of the service.
The $20 million, however, will not all go to the plaintiffs. The lawyers will get $11 million and the remaining $9 million will be divided among 614,000 users. So the amount that each of them will receive does not exceed $15.
Of course, only users who responded to the announcement made by the company at the beginning of the year and declared that they were claiming the money will actually receive it.
