Big news for the friends of Online TV

Sony has reached a preliminary agreement with Viacom to transfer its channels to an upcoming Internet-based TV service from Sony, according to the Wall Street Journal .TV

Sony is trying to bypass the traditional model of subscription TV services. In February, Intel confirmed that it would make an Internet-connected set-top box for movies and TV shows and that it would release it later this year. Google apparently has similar plans, which the Wall Street Journal in July. The search engine company plans to launch an online streaming service that will be very similar to cable TV.

Companies that want to create an alternative solution face difficulties that come from the companies that maintain the old traditional subscription TV model. However, it seems that developments are progressing.

Unlike Google or Intel, Sony — along with Apple, which reportedly reached a content deal with Time Warner in July — has also seen some development from major media companies and content providers. Some of the channels owned by Viacom include MTV ,Nickelodeon , and Comedy Central.

The Wall Street Journal reported that Sony's service will launch later this year. Sony's service will be available on the PlayStation 4 , Sony tablets , smartphones and Bravia high-definition televisions .
