Facebook announced that starting today, https connections are now the default for everyone. This means that all traffic on the website, both on the web and on the mobile site, will be done over a secure connection.
Scott Renfro from the company's technical department published an article explaining the details of Facebook.
“We use a Transport Layer Security ( TLS ) protocol connection , which makes communication between your browsers and Facebook servers more secure,” it says.
The security upgrade on Facebook comes immediately after leaks that suggested the company was sharing all of its users' information with the US secret service, the NSA. So, in addition to the website's statement that the new measure is for the safety of its members, it certainly also serves to create impressions.
