Hoax Slayer has spotted a new phishing targeting AOL users. This time, the scammers aren't using "security updates" to trick AOL users into giving up their login credentials, but are instead warning them that they're victims of a virus infection.
Titled “Customer Service Solution,” the message intended to trick users of the service states:
“The TJ2117 virus has been detected on your system. Please log in to our service to download the new Secure Anti Virus 2013 for TJ2117. Thank you for choosing our service.”
"A TJ2117 Virus has been detected in your folders. Login Here to Switch to the new Secure TJ2117 anti virus 2013. Thank you for choosing our service."
Victims who click on the link are taken to a fake AOL login page, where they are asked to enter their username and password.
Once connected to the fake website, victims are redirected to a legitimate AOL page. Cybercriminals use this redirection likely to avoid arousing suspicion.
In case you are a victim of this scam, change your passwords immediately, especially if you use the same password for multiple accounts.
