A new scam on Facebook promises free headphones from Dr. Dre.
“FREE Beats by Dr Dre Headphones! (for a limited time only). Dr Dre is currently giving away free headphones to all Facebook users!” reads the fake message discovered by Hoax Slayer.
Those who fall for the trap and click on the link included in the scam are taken to a website where they will be asked to complete a survey in order to win. Of course, as always, no one wins anything, except the scammers, who can earn money every time someone visits their website. In addition, the survey responses, which contain personal information, are sold to various companies or other scammers.
To avoid falling victim to such similar fake offers, check the company's website or official Facebook page before giving out any personal information. If there is no mention of a contest, it is almost certain that you are dealing with a scam.
