How would you like it if your Android's volume rocker controlled Bluetooth and/or Wi-Fi, or the home button controlled your smartphone's camera?
Now, thanks to ElementalX developer Aaron Segaert, it can become a reality. Segaert has developed an app called Button Mapper, which can make the buttons extremely functional. After installing the app, you'll be able to assign custom actions to the volume and Home buttons.
How to assign different functions to your Android buttons
Step 1: First of all, go to Google Play and download the Button Mapper App. The App is listed as unreleased on the Google Play page, but don't worry, it's because it's in beta stage.
Step 2: Install the Button Mapper App and enable Accessibility Plugin. Open the app and tap the “Go” button on the message in the bottom right corner of your screen. From here, select “Button Mapper” from the list, then enable the app’s Accessibility plugin with the switch at the top of the screen and tap “OK” in the pop-up window.
Step 3: Rearrange your Android buttons as you wish. Once you have enabled the Accessibility Plugin, go back to the App. You will now see a list of all the selectable buttons that you can customize on your Android smartphone. To assign a button, simply select it from the list and then turn on the “Customize” switch at the top of the following screen.
The Mapper’s skills don’t stop there. Segaert has created an additional Pro version of Button Mapper for $2.49, which lets you add double taps and do other specialized things. To do this, simply select “Single tap,” “Double tap,” or “Long press” in this menu, then choose a custom action from the list. If you’d rather have this button launch an app or activity, you can use the drop-down menu at the top of this window to see more actions.
Once you have assigned new tasks to different buttons, you don't even need to restart your smartphone because the changes will take effect immediately. Once you're done setting up, your phone's buttons should have completely different functions
