Apple fixes bug that allows access to locked iPhone

Less than 24 hours after it was first reported in the media, the iOS security flaw that let anyone access the contacts and photos of a locked iPhone 6S/6S Plus without a passcode was patched – and it didn't even require downloading software.

Apple fixes bug that allows access to locked iPhone

Apple been made to Siri to prevent Twitter searches on a locked phone under any circumstances.

Although it only worked on 3D Touch devices and under certain conditions – namely, you had to have Siri integrated with Twitter and your photos – the bug was quite serious, since it essentially bypassed the iPhone's security and, potentially, opened the door to other vulnerabilities.

Specifically, the case: 9to5Mac reports that, along with this patch, Apple also discreetly fixed another Siri bug that allowed users to enable Night Shift while the device was in Low Power Mode. While this is less of a security issue, it does show that Siri can be tricked into performing a number of activities on your phone that it otherwise wouldn't be able to do.

The bug (and the fix) followed the well-known legal battle between Apple and the FBI, which needed Apple's help to crack an iPhone 5C belonging to San Bernardino gunman Syed Farook. Much has been made about the iPhone's hack-proof security, but the latest security flaw shows that no device, including the very latest iPhones, is completely impenetrable.
