It seems that Apple CEO Tim Cook has stated that children should learn programming from a young age, something that is likely to soon become a reality on the other side of the Atlantic.
In Florida, a proposal to replace the two foreign language courses with programming languages, such as JavaScript and Python, is currently being considered by lawmakers.

America is showing a growing enthusiasm for programming being taught in American colleges. President Obama also contributed to this trend last weekend by unveiling a $4.2 billion plan to expand computer science education. According to Obama, computer science education is now “a core skill, along with the other three ‘R’s” — [ reading, writing, arithmetic ] reading, writing and arithmetic.

Programming languages may not make sense to students of theoretical sciences, or to those who wish to engage in the arts. They will have the opportunity to continue their foreign language courses. In American educational institutions, students will have the opportunity to learn foreign languages such as: Latin, Mandarin, German, in addition to C++.
