Twitter is down again after a brief outage yesterday, sending millions of users into a state of panic and leaving them without a means of expressing their philosophical thoughts in 140 characters.
The first problems began yesterday, between 6:23 and 6:33 a.m., but staff quickly brought the issue under control and brought the site back up, with very few people noticing. The problems returned today, and at 8:53 a.m., Twitter was down for a few hours (it wasn't specified exactly how long).
No details are provided on Twitter's official status page.
The website is currently displaying one of its basic error messages: “Something is technically wrong. Thanks for your concern – we will fix the error and things will be back to normal soon.”.
Just like yesterday's outage, Twitter is down on the web and mobile. Both versions come online for a few seconds, but the error quickly returns. Some of its other services are also down. These include its blog and TweetDeck. The company's developer portal appears to be fine.
The site's API status provides some clues as to what might be going wrong. The page lists service outages with the streaming service and the user's schedule.
“User streams” is currently reported to be working normally, explaining why I can sometimes explore everyone else’s latest tweets, but not my own timeline.
UPDATE: Twitter has acknowledged the current incident: "Some users are currently experiencing issues accessing the website. We are aware of the issue and are working to find a solution."
