The Pirate Bay returns with a new domain name

The Pirate Bay

A few days after the closure of The Pirate Bay, the well-known torrent tracker made reappearance under a new domain name.

This is thepiratebay.cr (Top Level Domain Costa Rica), which according to the latest information had already been transferred (and) there shortly before the closure by the Swedish authorities.

According to a lawyer who told TorrentFreak, The Pirate Bay has 40 sites that it can be moved to. It is located on cloud servers in 20 different hosting providersaround the world, making it quite difficult for the project to stop operating.

Meanwhile, the popular torrent site Isohunthas created a fully functional page, oldpiratebay.org, which, as they announced on their official blog, “was created (the Old Pirate Bay) to honor the site (The Pirate Bay) and to save its foundation for future generations.”

Finally, Isohunt may have initially been shut down after a years-long legal battle, but it reopened a few days later under a new domain. This, combined with The Pirate Bay's new domain name, shows how difficult it is for authorities to crack down on torrent sites.
