We had informed you that data encryption in Android 5.0 Lollipop would be enabled by default, however as it turns out, this reduces performance.
First of all, let us emphasize that encryption on upgraded devices ( e.g. Nexus 5) not enabled and must be enabled by the user, while on devices sold with Android 5.0 pre-installed (e.g. Nexus 6), encryption is already enabled and cannot be disabled.
AnandTech ran some benchmarks on the regular Nexus 6 that 's available on the market and a special edition sent by Motorola with encryption disabled. The results showed that the Nexus 6 without encryption was significantly faster than the regular version .
The test was repeated accordingly with the Nexus 5, and performance was significantly reduced when encryption was enabled.
