Just in time for back-to-school, Google has created a tool for teachers.
The internet giant said it will make the tool available beyond its closed beta in an open app available to educators as part of its Google Apps for Education platform. The app will be available in 42 different languages around the world.
Originally released in May as a closed preview-only tool, the Classroom tool is designed to help teachers manage assignments. Instead of handing out assignments on paper, the app will allow teachers to assign them from a page and then accept completed work via Google Drive and Docs. Students then return the work to the teacher through the app, and grades and comments are posted.
The goal of the software, said Google product manager Zach Yeskel, was to create a platform to help teachers manage assignments and provide feedback to students on their coursework. In addition to making the app available for general use to the public, the company has also added new features.
