Google has announced that it will permanently shut down Orkut, the company's forgotten social network that few people remember anymore. So, starting September 30, 2014, Orkut will no longer be available to users.
Orkut's operation began dynamically ten years ago, but over the years the social network lost its popularity, and was overshadowed by the presence of other social networks, such as Facebook.
From now on, the social network will no longer accept new registrations. However, existing users who are still using the service will be able to access it normally until the end of September.
Users have plenty of time to export their profile data, posts, and photos using Google's Takeout service.
"It's been 10 great years, and we apologize to everyone who still actively uses the service. We hope users will find other online communities to participate in discussions and create even more connections," said Paulo Golgher, Google's.
