The first "Open Public Data Hackathon" by the Ministry of Administrative Reform was completed

openThe first "Open Public Data Hackathon" organized by the Ministry of Administrative Reform and e-Government was successfully completed, inviting scientists, researchers, entrepreneurs, civil servants, students, pupils, to participate for the first time in a competitive process for the utilization of public data.

The presentation of the participants' proposals and the selection of the winners with the best digital applications took place today at a special awards ceremony at the National Research Foundation, in the context of an event for the presentation of the National Open Government Action Plan.

The winners of the competition presented their innovative and very interesting proposals:

1st Prize: Georgios Panagopoulos, Ioannis Katakis, Andreas Grivas and Nektaria Rekka with the application: “AGIN.ARA” – Consumer advisor for smarter shopping and the fight against profiteering.

2nd Prize: Saidis Kostas, Agapios Avramidis and Stavroula Charilogi with the application “Public Open Data Cloud” – Cloud service / prototype that allows programmatic access to open public data.

3rd Prize: Evangelos Banos with the application “GR Gov Mobile Search” – Mobile web application for Android and iOS that allows full-text search in the content of specific public sets/collections (Diavgeia Program, all notices and procurements published in the Central Electronic Registry of Public Contracts – KIMDIS, Official Gazettes posted by the National Printing House).

The awarded applications satisfied all the evaluation criteria of the competition and were distinguished for their scalability, the degree of utilization of the data sets they used and the maturity of the technological solution. The prize was financial and amounted to 3,000 euros for the 1st prize, 2,000 euros for the 2nd and 1,000 euros for the 3rd.

However, all participants in the competition were commended for their remarkable effort to reuse, in the most original way, the open public data collected and made available online at data.gov.gr, and to develop applications and services with added value, contributing to the production and transfer of new knowledge.

Praise was also awarded to the Ministry of Development and Competitiveness, whose datasets were used the most by the participants in the competition.
