When it comes to the security of our personal information, the security of our financial data, and the security of all our assets, we are quite careful.
In the world of smart devices (Smartphones etc.), where devices know more than we do, to protect ourselves and secure our device from viruses, malware or spyware, we completely depend on various security products, such as antivirus, privacy protection applications, which we usually install from some trusted sources, such as the Google Play Store. Most Antivirus applications are available for free download, but some of them are available for payment, as they include additional features such as optimal firewall protection, anti-theft, App Locker or Cloud backup, etc.
But if you think that just because you downloaded an app from an official store and it's paid, that makes it safe, then think again.
In the past, Mobile Security researchers have identified several fake antivirus that were available for free download on Google Play, but this is the first time that cybercriminals have offered a fake, but paid Antivirus called "Virus Shield", for Android on the Google Play store.
Virus Shield masquerades as an antivirus that claims to “protect your personal information from harmful viruses, malware, spyware” and “Improve your phone’s speed,” with just one click.
Furthermore, it claims to have the least impact on battery, runs in the background, and also acts as an adblock software that will stop “annoying ads,” something that bothers us every day.
