Vulnerabilities in legitimate software used by employees continue to be a "headache" for business security, as shown by a study by Kaspersky Lab in collaboration with B2B International.
Among the executives from the IT sector from around the world, professionals from our country also took part in the study, based on whose answers it seems that the vulnerabilities of legitimate programs constitute an "Achilles heel" for Greek businesses as well. And this, at a rate of 38%, reported that such vulnerabilities were hidden behind incidents of "infection" of corporate computers or leakage of critical data, which they encountered within the last 12 months.
According to Kaspersky Lab, although the number of such incidents has decreased significantly internationally compared to 2011 (from 47% to 39%), the threat is not negligible. It is indicative that, based on the research, incidents related to security were reported by almost 85% of companies worldwide and 87% of Greek businesses. Incidents that were due to a greater extent to vulnerabilities in legitimate software.
At the same time, 18% of respondents from our country stated that they suffered data leaks related to their companies' business activities, which were caused by vulnerabilities in corporate software. Furthermore, 7% of Greek companies reported leaks of critical corporate data that led to financial losses.
As Kaspersky reports, these figures show why it is particularly critical for every company to use a security solution that has advanced technologies that facilitate the detection and interception of attacks resulting from any gaps.
