An innovation competition, around the creation of a model mobile phone application to tackle tax evasion with modern technological means, is being organized on June 13 and 14 by Crowd Policy, in collaboration with the innovation and entrepreneurship hub of the Technopolis of the Municipality of Athens, Innovathens.

The two-day Hackathon will focus on the implementation of a mobile app to combat tax evasion from consumer transactions. The application will operate based on reading the receipts received by the customer for each transaction. The application will be interconnected with information systems in the private and public sectors and will support gamification and loyalty schemes, providing open anonymized data.
The objectives of the organization are to lay the foundations for the creation of the application so that it can be developed in a fully functional form. In addition, to raise awareness among programmers, analysts, economists, students and professionals, so that something that will benefit society can be developed participatoryly, as well as to create conditions for youth entrepreneurship, since through this competitive process a new team or company may emerge that will contribute to the future economy of our country.
Hackathons mobilize the human capital of cities towards a goal for the common good, while also boosting youth entrepreneurship and innovation.
Among the supporters of the effort are the Development and Tourism Promotion Company of the Municipality of Athens, the Free and Open Source Software Company, the Foundation for Economic and Industrial Research, the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Unit of the National Technical University of Athens and the Entrepreneurship and Innovation Support Center of the Athens University of Economics and Business.
