What does Hillary Clinton say about encryption?

Hillary Clinton from the Democratic Party said regarding encryption that “the backdoor might be the wrong door”.

Speaking in a debate with the other Democratic candidates, Clinton was asked if she would legislate to give law enforcement a key to encrypted technology.

Hillary Clinton's answer was: “I hope, given the amazing capabilities that technology companies have and the legitimate needs and the questions that authorities have. A Manhattan-like project could be created that would bring the tech community and the government together so they understand that they are not opponents but must be partners.”

He continued, “The back door may be the wrong door, and I understand what Apple and other companies are saying about that.”

This stance by Hillary Clinton undermines her previous statements regarding weaker encryption but she did not explain what she means by these other doors. The Clinton campaign site says: “To defeat ISIS there must be better coordination and information sharing to combat terrorism and prevent attacks. There must be absolute cooperation between European governments and authorities, between Silicon Valley and Washington, and between local police officials and the communities they serve.

The nature of this “Manhattan Project” scheme was not explained and it is hard to say what it has in mind. Obviously Hillary Clinton envisions a regime where the authorities have access to all encrypted data. Something we don’t think has much luck.
