New firmware update released for the NetGear R8500 router

The new update improves upload speed to external storage devices connected via USB.

Netgear has released a new firmware update for its powerful Nighthawk X8 AC5300 router ( NetGear R8500 ). The new firmware, version 1.0.0.50 , improves upload speeds from USB storage devices .

If you also have this particular router model and want to benefit from the upgrade, you should first of all look for the currently installed version of your router's firmware. After making sure that it does not have the latest version, you can proceed to download and unzip the upgrade.

Additionally, it is a good idea to create a backup, recording all changes made to the default values in the router settings, in case you need to re-enter them after the upgrade.

After making sure that everything is OK, you should connect the router to your computer, preferably via Ethernet, and log in to the router's administration page. From there, go to Advanced > Administration > Firmware Upgrade > Browse, browse and select the firmware upgrade file from the folder you saved it in, starting the installation process.

Even if the process seems simple, we should keep in mind that during installation, turning off or restarting the device can lead to an update failure, which could corrupt the router's software or even render it unusable.
