Data shows that Windows 10 market share is on the rise
Windows 10 launched on July 29th, and since then, adoption numbers have been on the rise, with market research firms around the world revealing that the new operating system is even better than Windows 7, which, as we know, is Microsoft's last big success on the business side.
At the end of August, Windows 10 had a market share of 5.33 percent, and according to new data provided by StatCounter, the new operating system has already improved by more than 1.5 points in about a week.
Windows 10 currently has a 6.93 percent share and remains the fifth most widely used PC operating system in the world, behind Windows 7, which clearly leads the market with 52.57 percent, Windows 8.1 with 13.54 percent, Windows XP with 9.48 percent, and OS X with 8.44 percent.
Installation continues
Microsoft plans to bring Windows 10 to 1 billion devices by 2017, and in order to achieve that, the company must first upgrade all Windows 7 and 8.1 PCs.
Redmond is rolling out Windows 10 in stages, and despite the fact that the process began more than 30 days ago, some computers are still waiting for it. This may be due to compatibility issues that may exist on their computer, as Microsoft first works to resolve potential problems before offering the upgrade.
“We are very pleased with the strong response to Windows 10 with over 75 million devices activated so far. We continue to upgrade Windows 7 & 8.1 devices in a continued rollout of Windows 10 around the world. We are focused on rolling out Windows 10 to a remarkable install base to ensure our customers have a great upgrade ,” a company spokesperson said.
The free upgrade offer for Windows 10 will last until July 29, 2016, so we expect installation figures to continue to grow in the coming months as more computers get the new operating system.
