Lizard Squad hacker convicted of hacking attacks

lizard squadA young hacker who is clearly a member of the Lizard Squad has received a two-year prison sentence in Finland in connection with other cybercriminals for various hacking attacks and an attack on university servers in the United States.

The 17-year-old, known by the names “ Zeekill ” and “ Ryan , ” was charged with 50,700 hacking attacks and other offenses such as credit card fraud, according to Finnish news outlets and a Lizard Squad Twitter account .

In a tweet, the Lizard Squad team said, "Zeekill received two years probation. 0 time in prison."

The court ruled on hacking including tampering with MIT and Harvard, as well as money laundering to cover illegal proceeds, according to a report by the Finnish Times. The perpetrator is not named because he is a minor.

The crimes were committed in 2012 and 2013 when the teenager was 15 and 16 years old, according to a publication on the news site Lansivayla, which adds that as punishment he was deprived of access to a computer at the time.

Last year, journalist Brian Krebsreported that sources said the young man was part of Lizard Squad and listed his various aliases, including Ryan. He was arrested in late December by Finnish authorities after attacks on prominent online video game networks such as Playstation and Xbox. During an interview posted on YouTube, another young man revealed that Ryan carried out the attacks in order to expose security holes, and Lizard Squad claimed responsibility for these attacks.
