The market for Android 5.0 Lollipop increased by 3.4% compared to last month, according to recent reports from Google regarding the distribution of the operating system version.

Last month, Google announced that Lollipop 5.0 was running on 9% of Android devices registered in the Play Store. With the new data, that percentage has risen to 12.4% of Android devices.

Android has just 0.8%. And while various Android OEMs are struggling to climb to the top of high-end smartphones, Google is reportedly ready to release Android M.

However, that won't happen until the fall, leaving plenty of time for smartphone makers to use the existing version of the operating system on their new devices. Aside from Nexus and GPE phones and tablets, few if any devices currently on the market are expected to install Android M until the end of 2015.

As for the other versions of Android that are in the preferences of users, according to Play Store statistics, they are Android 4.4 KitKat with 39.2%, Android 4.x Jelly Bean with 37.4%, Android 4.0.x Ice Cream Sandwich with 5.1%, Android 2.3 x Gingerbread with 5.6% and finally Android 2.2 Froyo with 0.3%.

As can be seen from the above statistics, Android version 4.4 KitKat continues to be the most used version of the platform, as has been the case for several months.

According to Google, the above data was collected during a 7-day period leading up to June 1.
