Akamai Technologies signs a partnership with China Unit's cloud service, CU cloud, which will combine its services with CDN capabilities to offer them on the Akamai platform.

Akamai Technologies has signed an agreement with China Unicorn to offer its full range of services to improve web performance, media, and cloud security.

One of the largest cloud computing service providers, CU Cloud will combine its services with the capabilities of Akamai Technologies , and the two partners will thus develop more opportunities to help Chinese businesses expand their online presence globally.

In a statement this week, the company said the deal will expand the reach of its CDN (Content Delivery Network) services in China. It added that CU Cloud will also integrate its “turnkey CDN” technology to provide its own cloud services.

“China Unicorn is one of the leading players in China serving the global internet, and we are excited to partner with CU Cloud to enter China’s rapidly growing Cloud and CDN services market,” said Noam Freedman , vice president of global networks at Akamai Technologies

China Unicom last June announced plans to build its first and largest overseas facility in Hong Kong, investing HK$3 billion (US$387.03 million).

Last week, Akamaialso officially opened its new security operations center (SOC) in Bangalore, India, which had been operational since December 2014. The facility operates 24/7 and expands the CDN's global cyber defense network.

By the end of 2015, the Indian unit will be Akamai's second-largest SOC outside the United States.

“It is clear that many cyberattacks continue to originate from Asian countries,” said Sidharth Malik, the company’s India managing director and vice president. “Identifying the origin of these attacks through the SOC gives Akamai a very significant advantage in mitigating them.”
