Oculus VR has acquired the company Surreal Vision, seeking to bring virtual reality into our everyday lives, as well as to beat competing proposals, such as the one recently released by rival company Microsoft.
Oculus VR is interested in competing hard with the corresponding proposals, such as the Holo Lens of Microsoft.
Essentially, what Surreal Vision offers, which was the subject of the acquisition by Oculus VR, is the ability to represent reality in virtual environments. Surreal Vision is a company specializing in three-dimensional rendering of scenes and other images in augmented reality environments, which shows that Oculus VR is keen to compete fiercely with competing proposals such as Microsoft's HoloLens.
Even more powerful telepresence
A team of three PhDs, which also forms the founding team of Surreal Vision, will work closely with Oculus VR to develop the appropriate infrastructure and applications for the telepresence application. Telepresence - or telepresence in remote places - is one of the most basic applications of the new technology and is expected to become even more powerful in the near future. An example of telepresence is participating in a meeting in another country from the comfort of the user's office.
First target the Dynamic Fusion
The first area in which the Oculus VR and Surreal Vision teams will work is the so‑called Dynamic Fusion. Dynamic Fusion is a software that recreates and reconstructs moving images in a potential reality environment.
