iOS: Beware! New bug causes iPhone to restart with an SMS

iOS bug – A new bug has been identified in iOS that crashes the iPhone and causes a Restart simply by receiving an SMS containing a specific series of special characters!

Those who receive this SMS or iMessage will find that their iPhone will perform a Respring and then Reboot, without unfortunately being able to intervene in process . After the automatic Reboot, and if the user opens the conversation list through Message.app , the application crashes again automatically, resulting in another Reboot on the iPhone.

Below, in the image you can see the sequence of special characters that causes this crash:

iOS: Beware! New bug causes iPhone to restart with an SMS
The sequence of characters that causes the iPhone to reboot is: Power لُلُصّبُلُلُصّبُررً ॣ ॣh ॣ ॣ ॣ ॣ

If the user opens the SMS or iMessage itself through the Message.app , their iPhone will not crash - at least momentarily. However, if the user attempts to change conversations in the application, the Respring and then Reboot process will follow again.

It is expected that Apple will fix this bug immediately.

However, because it will be annoying for everyone and the phenomenon has begun to take on epidemic proportions, you can try this temporary solutionuntil the bug is officially fixed:

  1. Open the  Notes.app
  2. Create a new note, the content of which can be anything you want (e.g. Red)
  3. Save the note
  4. Tap the share icon (bottom center of the screen) and send the note as an SMS to a phone number.
  5. After sending the note, you will be able to open Messages.app.
