Crete: Students built an environmentally aware robot! – It recognizes recyclable packaging and transports it to the appropriate bin

The capabilities of the robot-ecologist they built will be presented next Thursday, May 7, by students of EPAL Sitia who participated in the European Leonardo da Vinci program entitled “Jobs for Youth, Skills for Companies” in which the school participated in the previous two years.

Crete: Students built an environmentally aware robot!

This is a partnership of 7 European countries: France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Bulgaria and Greece, which concerns the creation of a company called “Bluebot”.

Along with the presentation of the program that will be carried out by students and teachers from the above countries, there will be a demonstration of the final product of the program, a robot that separates recyclable packaging according to their construction material. This particular robot was built exclusively by students of the EPAL of Sitia under the supervision of their teacher Mr. Sfyrakis Ioannis.

The event will take place in Sitia, on Thursday, May 7 at 7:00 pm in a hotel event hall.

The program is led by G. Sfyrakis and Agn. Christaki.

Speaking to Cretalive, Ms. Christaki mentioned that this is a Leonardo program – now Erasmus – which they have been working on at the school for 2 years.

"Now is the final phase in Sitia where the robot built by the EPAL of Sitia will be presented. The program concerns a virtual company from 7 countries. Each one is responsible for a department. It is jointly managed by students and teachers. The remarkable thing is that among these countries, Greece has the construction sector while Germany has human resources, France has finances, Italy has advertising, Bulgaria has e-commerce, etc. Although the company is virtual, the robot we built is real. It takes the recyclable packaging and recognizes it, in order to transport it to the appropriate bin. It is a patent!".
