Blue Coat: Israeli Military Network Hacked
Blue Coat Systems Inc, a California-based network solutions provider, claims to have detected a hack in Israel's military network.
According to their statement, the hack appears to have been a four-month-long effort and is an espionage campaign that expertly packages existing attack software with trick emails.
The hack appears to be the work of Arabic-speaking hackers, as researchers at Blue Coat have found that the programming tools used to hack the network had a default Arabic setting. They suspect the hackers worked on a shoestring budget, as most of their code came from previously existing versions of the hacking software.
The Israeli Defense Ministry spokesman said that military officials were not aware "of the hacking of IDF operational networks.".
[blockquote]“Not all attackers need advanced tools,” Blue Coat told Reuters in a statement. “As regional conflicts continue, cyber threats from groups of varying skill levels will also accompany conventional armed conflicts.”[/blockquote]
