Reuters: Threats against Facebook from Turkish court – Ordered blocking of pages that insult Muhammad
Threatening to shut down the social network if it fails to comply with its decision, a Turkish court in Ankara ordered the social network to block access to several pages that insult Muhammad, Reuters reports.
The court's decision on Sunday was made at the request of the prosecutor, state broadcaster TRT reports, while there has been no comment from Facebook.
This is the latest move by the Erdogan government, aimed at eliminating material it considers offensive to the religious beliefs of the Turkish people, according to the publication.
Earlier this month, Turkish prosecutors ordered an investigation into a newspaper that reprinted excerpts from the French satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo, in the wake of the terrorist attack on its offices in Paris.
