South Korea's Samsung Electronics Co Ltd said on Tuesday it has no plans to acquire Canada's Blackberry Ltd, denying Reuters reports that the two companies were in talks.
"Media reports about the acquisition are unfounded," a Samsung.
According to the news agency, which cites a source familiar with the matter, Samsung recentlyoffered to acquire BlackBerry for $7.5 billion in a bid to acquire BlackBerry's valuable patents.
Samsung is seeking the acquisition as it battles to overtake Apple in securing a larger share of the smartphone and next-generation electronics market.
And BlackBerry, in a related announcement, stressed that it has not been involved in discussions with Samsung regarding any takeover offer.
