MasterCard today announced its global partnership with Masabi, combining MasterCard’s payments technology with JustRide. The first city to benefit from the partnership is Athens.
Using Masabi’s JustRide, passengers can purchase and display their tickets for immediate and future use on their smartphones. JustRide also includes ticket validation software by scanning via smartphone or through dedicated gates and stand-alone validation machines.
Masabi integrates MasterPass, MasterCard's secure digital payments system, into JustRide, allowing consumers to pay for their fare with a simple touch.
At Mobile World Congress 2014, MasterCard announced that it will soon enable payments through smartphone and tablet applications through its MasterPass in-app payments system, promising secure purchases through mobile applications.
MasterPass in-app payments aim to eliminate the need to store credit card details across multiple mobile apps, while providing consumers with a fast and simple payment experience.
With this collaboration, smartphones are transformed into vending machines, since tickets can be purchased anytime, anywhere.
