Nintendo wants a GameBoy emulator on the iPhone

Gameboy emulator

Nintendo has filed an invention with the United States Patent and Trademark Office to create suitable software for a GameBoy emulator on iOS devices.

It's not unusual for tech companies to submit to the committee, although most proposals are rejected. But this time, if it is accepted then everyone will win, both Nintendo and Apple, but even more so the users.

Games like Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath are a perfect example of how these games can evolve on iOS. By making a few small changes, the user enjoys a completely new experience that has impressed millions of gamers. Nintendo has the exact same goal with the GameBoy emulator, although its proposal is still on paper.

If the emulator is eventually released, the company plans to set up an app store where 8-bit game fans will be able to download their favorite titles like Metroid and Legend of Zelda.

iOS devices also support peripheral controls, which is good for 80's games that require buttons for control, although many users have easily gotten used to on-screen controls on their device.

All those nostalgic for 80's games, we are anxiously waiting for Nintendo!
