"Burn" the downloads you don't want to fall into the wrong hands. How to completely erase every trace of downloaded files from your computer
The familiar list of downloads on Mac is very easily accessible and you can erase every trace of the files you download so that they don't fall into the wrong eyes.
However, your computer also keeps a second, more hidden list of downloaded files in case it is needed in the future for a possible repair of your Mac.
Only you know what files you download and which ones you don't want to be seen. But if you don't want anyone else to see them and you want to truly erase every trace of them on your computer, you'll have to dig a little deeper into operating system .
It's not difficult though.
Just follow the steps below:
-Go to the magnifying glass and type “terminal”
-In the window that opens, copy/paste the following command:
sqlite3 ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.LaunchServices.QuarantineEventsV* 'select LSQuarantineDataURLString from LSQuarantineEvent'
-You will immediately see the entire list of files you have downloaded since the first day you bought your computer.
-In the same window, copy/paste the following command:
sqlite3 ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.LaunchServices.QuarantineEventsV* 'delete from LSQuarantineEvent'
-The secondary file has been deleted and there is no longer any mention of it in your downloads!
-If you want to confirm that everything was erased, rerun the first command.
