Phishing Email to Virgin Media Customers

The "Phishing" email.
The “Phishing” email.

An email that appears to come from Virgin Media customer service and reports account issues aims to steal account details of the service's users.

The fake message is so well crafted that it lists many reasons for which the account will have a problem and encourages the unsuspecting user to log in to My Virgin Media and update their personal information so that any problem can be resolved.

The URL of the fake website appears very clearly at the bottom of the message, but with a related check the user can realize that it is not an official email and should not proceed.

Among the reasons mentioned by the website Online Threat Alerts are address change, expiration of a credit or debit card, insufficient funds in the account, and generally plausible reasons that could have occurred in reality. This makes the message appear as if it truly comes from Virgin Media.

Once again, we encounter the classic bait at the end of the email, which states that if the user does not fill in the missing information, the company will terminate the provision of services to them. This is intended to capture their attention and ultimately lead them where they want.
