An update released on Tuesday is causing problems on computers running Windows 7.
KB2952664 is a Windows 7 update that was first released by Microsoft in April of this year, but has recently been updated and is now available for download. The only problem, however, is that on some computers, KB2952664 is causing quite a few problems, mainly because the installation fails. Users who encountered the problem reported that the installation of KB2952664 failed with error code 80242016. This means that the installation could not be completed because another installation was in progress. As you can see in the picture below, the update failed to install on our Windows 7 computer, and without an official announcement from Microsoft, it is really difficult to find a solution.
What can you do?
From what we have heard so far, it seems that the installation fails after copying some files to our computer. So the best way is to remove all the files and download them again. To do this, go to the following location: Control Panel\Programs & Features\View installed updates
Then search for the update “KB2952664”, right-click on it and select “Uninstall”. Windows should automatically remove all the files. After that, it will search for new updates once again, and KB2952664 should appear on your computer and run correctly. There is one major issue, however: some users report that the update KB2952664 fails to install the first time, and thus the “Uninstall” option will not be available. In this case, Microsoft should provide some solution so that the files can be uninstalled. However, the company has not made any announcement at this time.
Windows 7 is the only operating system affected by this issue as Patch KB2952664 only concerns this version. From the number of messages we have received so far, it seems that a lot of users are affected by this problem, and Microsoft needs to provide a solution quickly. Until then, it is best to ignore the faulty patch, to avoid problems.
