Xsser mRAT: An advanced iOS spyware targets protesters in Hong Kong

Security researchers from Lacoon Mobile Security have identified an advanced iOS Trojan targeting protesters in Hong Kong.

The trojan has been dubbed "Xsser mRAT" and is related to similar Android malware detected last month targeting protesters.

The Android version of this malware is distributed via WhatsApp messages that are "disguised" as an app to help the Occupy Central protest.

The malware is capable of stealing text messages, contact lists, call logs, location information, photos, and other information. It also steals passwords from iOS keychains.

The good news is that the malware can only be executed if the user's device is jailbroken. You can find more information and technical details in their blog post.
