Trend Micro has released a threat report for the third quarter of 2013. The study covers cybercrime, mobile threats, privacy and data theft, exploitable vulnerabilities, as well as targeted attacks.

The report also reveals that the number of banking Trojan infections has increased significantly compared to the same period in 2012. A total of over 200,000 banking Trojan infections were recorded in Q3 2013, compared to 132,000 in Q3 2012.

ZeuS variants were the most prevalent when sending spam. The most targeted countries were the United States (23%), Brazil (16%), Japan (12%), India (6%), and Australia (3%).

The most common malware in the previous quarter was Worm_Downad.ad. However, it is worth noting that the number of infections decreased from 509,000 to 345,000.

As for phishing attacks, they have seen an increase, mainly involving Apple-related phishing websites. This huge increase was recorded in May, likely fueled by rumors about the release of iOS7.
