Four teachers (three from primary and secondary education and one from higher education) who are being investigated for crimes of pedophilia, are being suspended from service by the Minister of Education, Andreas Loverdos.
As he informed the Committee on Educational Affairs today, the names will be made known to him and he will immediately, under his own responsibility, place them outside the educational community, regardless of any decision of the service councils.
He also stated that in such matters his decisions will be immediate, as has already happened, as he notes, when he refused to sign the reinstatement of an administrative employee who was arrested for "downloading" child pornography next to a school, was tried "for a while" and then applied for reinstatement. "He should go and seek justice from the Pope of Rome. Just as those who will be revealed tomorrow should go to court. I will expel them," said the Minister of Education.
Mr. Loverdos also informed the Committee that the head of the Cybercrime Prosecution, Brigadier General Manolis Sfakianakis, will next Thursday begin the implementation of a program by the Ministry of Education based on which children will use the Internet through a website that will be controlled by the Cybercrime Prosecution and the sender of a "suspicious email" will be automatically identified.
Mr. Sfakianakis, on Thursday, will attempt the first implementation in 600 schools, with the goal of covering all schools by the end of the year.
"This program needs the support of all political forces because there is a very serious issue. The percentage is very dangerous," stressed Mr. Loverdos, who requested that the Cybercrime Prosecution be summoned to Parliament to inform about the issue.
