Hewlett-Packard Hellas E.P.E. is promoting a recall and replacement program for HP laptop AC power cables.
As announced by the General Secretariat for Consumers, certain AC power cords sold from September 2010 to June 2012 are being voluntarily recalled.
Specifically, HP announced the start of a global voluntary recall and replacement program involving certain AC power cords used with AC adapters sold worldwide with HP and Compaq notebook and mini notebook computers, as well as AC adapters provided with accessories such as docking stations. These AC power cords may overheat, posing a fire and burn hazard.
Across Europe, HP has information about six incidents, some of which have reported minor property damage and minor injuries.
It is noted that not all HP and Compaq notebooks and mini notebooks were accompanied by a defective power cord, so it is recommended to check whether the power cord that came with the notebook or that was purchased as part of an accessory or as a spare falls under this recall.
To determine if their AC power cord is affected by this recall, consumers can visit the HP Notebook AC Power Cord Replacement Program website at CLICK HERE.
If the power cord is found to be defective during testing, HP will ship a replacement cord at no charge.
The Consumer General Secretariat and HP recommend that consumers who have one of the recalled AC power cords immediately stop using it.
