A new scam has been spotted on Facebook, which offers as bait a fake news story that a girl has been killed by her husband for kissing another man.
The message, which comes from a friend, appears to provide the gruesome video of the act, which aims to convince the user to click on the malicious link that leads to a page outside of Facebook.
To eliminate any suspicion, the malicious website closely resembles a Facebook page and provides a comments section (describing the video as shocking) along with statistics showing the video's popularity among users of the social networking site.
This type of scam is often carried out by cybercriminals, but a closer look easily reveals the scam, because as in most cases, the comments section is just an image and you can't access it, and the statistics simply make photos available with a limited amount of random numbers.
As we always point out, we should be very careful with the links we open even if they have been sent to us by our friends.
