It's only been a few months since Mark Zuckerberg officially announced the acquisition of Oculus VR in a post on Facebook, with its exploitation plans apparently progressing at a rapid pace.
According to The International, Facebook is already in talks with major film studios, including Disney, Fox, Warner Bros., Paramount, NBCUniversal, and Sony Pictures, as well as filmmakers, to create special content designed for the Oculus Rift.
The company's goal is to ensure that the device is not limited to the gaming market, but can also penetrate the larger entertainment industry. One way would be to convince Hollywood filmmakers, as well as large media companies, to develop so-called "Oculus experiences". For example, the company's plans include releasing a feature film with a first screening on the device, but wearing an entire device for so long is a bit tiring.
For now, all of this is in the exploratory stage and it is quite possible that Facebook has not yet concluded any agreement. However, the mere fact that the company wants the Oculus Rift to become the next generation of movie and TV viewing device probably shows the potential of this particular gadget.
