A doodle with the spectrum of the sun and the great Swedish physicist, Anders Jonas Ångström, dedicated to the 200th anniversary of his birth, is now on Google's homepage. The name of Anders Jonas Angstrom was given to the unit of measurement of the spectrum.
Angstrom studied the Sun's spectrum. The sun's interaction with the atmosphere and the creation of colors.
The spectrum of light consists of the colors we see in the rainbow. Each color has a specific wavelength.
The sky is black (and not blue) and the sun produces white light (and not yellow). Everything takes its color from the sun's spectrum.
As light enters the atmosphere, during its “walk” through it, the following occurs:
– most wavelengths of the light spectrum manage to cross it,
– however, those with longer wavelengths (red, orange, yellow) are less affected by the atmosphere,
– those with shorter wavelengths are absorbed by air molecules (blue, cyan),
– consequently deviate from their path and are emitted in all directions.
