Cybercriminals are always looking for the weakest link to exploit and gain as many victims as possible, and outdated browser, which seem to be the norm in Europe, are probably giving them what they want.
According to the latest statistics from the German company Cyscon GmbH, which specializes in detecting and mitigating online threats, users in most European countries use outdated browsers to explore the online world. This, of course, can translate into an abundance of potential victims for scammers.
The company has an interactive map that shows the percentage of users in a country who use outdated browsers.
According to Cyscon statistics, the European country whose users are most aware of the security risks due to outdated software is the Netherlands with approximately 51% of computer users having at least one browser plugin that needs to be updated.
Although the results are worrying, the country whose users are most susceptible to an online scam is Croatia, where it appears that 97% of users have not installed all updates.
This is followed by the Republic of Moldova, with 94%, Serbia with 86% and Germany with 80%. As the statistics show, there is no country where users are sufficiently aware of the risks posed by an outdated plugin.
