Shock and terror from the announcement of the Cybercrime Division of the Hellenic Police, according to which the student was preparing to cause a Viking raid at the University of Piraeus, like the Norwegian Viking, Anders Breivik…
The actions of the Cybercrime Division of the Hellenic Police were swift and effective, regarding the prevention of an act of violence against a university institution of the country.
Specifically, three days ago (4-7-2014), the Rectorial Authorities of the University Institution of the country reported to the Cybercrime Directorate that an individual was systematically issuing threats to commit violent behaviors and illegal actions against persons and/or property of the specific University.
According to the complaint, the threats were made publicly as well as through a social networking website, following the patterns of similar incidents at foreign universities.
Due to the particularity of the complaint, officials of the Cybercrime Directorate conducted an immediate thorough digital police investigation. As it turned out, the person who expressed the intent for the above illicit behaviors is a domestic student of the specific University Institution.
The digital material that was collected and the University Institution's complaint were taken into account by the Prosecutor's Office of the First Instance, which ordered the local Security Department – of the domestic student's residence – to conduct a preliminary examination and the necessary investigative actions.
In this context, an investigation was carried out at the student's home and pre‑investigative material was collected for the case, which was submitted to the prosecuting Prosecutor's Office.
It is recalled that for similar incidents, citizens can contact the Cybercrime Prosecution Directorate, at the following contact details:
- By phone at 11012 and 210-6476464
- Sending e‑mail to ccu@cybercrimeunit.gov.gr & 11012@hellenicpolice.gr
According to EXCLUSIVE information available to SecNews from authoritative sources, the perpetrator is of Albanian origin and intended to carry out his intentions within the next few days. Furthermore, all the professors of the University were alarmed by this specific event and requested immediate action by the judicial authorities to protect the teachers and students of the institution.
The actions of the authorities were immediate, all the pre‑investigative material that demonstrated the intentions of the “candidate” perpetrator was collected, and now the case has taken the path of justice.
