It's a known fact that Microsoft wants everyone to get rid of Windows XPas soon as possible, but it turns out that the company itself can't completely let go of this old operating system.
Windows XP support officially ended on April 8, 2014, and since then, Microsoft has warned that there will be no more updates and security patches for computers still running the operating system.
However, the company broke its promise about two weeks later, by sending out a critical security patch designed to fix a bug in Internet Explorer, which affects not only Windows XP, but also all other versions of Windows on the market.
Windows XP had been left out of the Patch Tuesday cycle anyway, and while everyone thought the company had finally let this old OS version die, that's not entirely true.
As reported, the company provided an update in June 2014 to the Malicious Software Removal Tool as part of its monthly Update Tuesday, while Security Essentials continues to receive updates, as promised.
Many consumers have already expressed their intention to stay on Windows XP a little longer, but other companies around the world have begun mass upgrades to Windows 7, in order to make sure that data will not be exposed in case someone finds an unpatched vulnerability in their software.
