Cybercriminals will do anything to get their hands on not only your Facebook account, but also your Twitteraccount. This, at least, is what a recent attempt to lure users with the promise of account verification shows.
Twitter account verification option for popular people and brands using the platform in order to verify their identity.
This means it must be in a special category, as the company does not accept verification requests from the general public.
Malwarebytes reports that such an attempt is clearly the exclusive work of cybercriminals, given that it was a good effort to make the landing page appear legitimate.
The most important aspect regarding the fake page is that all links lead to legitimate pages, hosted on the Twitter domain, which can gain the victim's trust into believing that the entire verification process is valid.
However, by entering Twitter credentials to verify the account, all the user is actually doing is handing the information over to the scammer. All of this happens in the background, and all the victim sees is a redirect to the account verification FAQ page.
The page no longer exists, but to avoid similar criminal actions, users should be careful where they send their information.
