Google will warn if a website is not optimized for mobile

Google appears to have updated its search results code. Until now, results from a mobile device were not properly configured to handle requests from smartphones, and were leading to the original website rather than the page the link was supposed to lead to .

Google-Search-Result-Note

Starting today, Google (which comes first in US search results) will display a notification below the result when it detects that smartphone users will be taken to a homepage instead of the displayed website. It will also give the option to click “Try Anyway” if you want to go to the homepage, TNW.

If Google detects that any of a site's pages redirect smartphone users to the home page, it will notify website owners with a message in Webmaster Tools under the "Smartphone Crawl Errors" section
