Israel-based Nice Systems said it had patched critical vulnerabilities in call-logging software used by law enforcement, but advisory authorities found that the dangerous vulnerabilities had not been fixed.
The interaction between Nice Systems and Austria-based consulting firm SEC Consult highlights the concern among software vendors and security firms that sometimes uncover problems through unsolicited audits.
Since late last year, Nice Systems has been in intermittent contact with SEC Consult, which analyzed Nice Recording eXpress, which is the software used by call centers and police to record calls. SEC Consult occasionally takes applications and performs so-called “security crash tests” in order to discover vulnerabilities.
