Service for the benefit of EU researchers.

A new cloud computing service, called "Federated Cloud", has been launched to serve European researchers, as announced by the European Grid Infrastructure (EGI).

The announcement of the new “cloud” was made at an EGI conference in Helsinki, Finland, last week. The new service involves public and private entities from 19 countries, including Greece with the “Oceanos” service of the National Research and Technology Network-GRNET (okeanos.grnet.gr). The creation of the cloud began in 2011, until a “federation” of relevant service providers from various countries emerged.

The service offers European researchers remote access to increased computing capabilities to advance their research, virtual environments of their choice, and support services that ensure that applications available in the cloud "run" efficiently.

Any researcher working in the European Union can now use the "Federated Cloud" to manage, disseminate and process their research data flexibly and easily.

Interested researchers will find more information on the website www.egi.eu.
