Read in detail what is planned for e-commerce from now on. Changes have been made to the institutional framework concerning companies operating in the e-commerce sector, while as it became known, from June 13 the rules for e-commerce are becoming stricter.
According to the Athens Chamber of Commerce, the institutional framework for companies that engage in electronic and distance commerce was changed by Law 4242/14 (Government Gazette 50 A/28-02-2014), resulting in the abolition of the registration of these companies in the special register kept at the Ministry of Development.
The above registration was a necessary condition for the approval of the necessary tax books and data by the competent public financial service and was proven by a certificate issued by the competent service of the Ministry of Development.
The law now stipulates that: "Every supplier who intends to conclude distance contracts for goods and services with consumers is obliged to request registration in the General Commercial Register (G.E.M.H.) in accordance with article 1 of Law 3419/2005 - General Commercial Register (G.E.M.H.) and Modernization of Chamber Legislation.".
Therefore, these companies cannot carry out any action without first registering with GEMI. However, a prerequisite for this registration is the prior registration with the Athens Chamber of Commerce for professionals in Athens or with a chamber of their choice or in their region.
